Shingle roofing · Downey & LA County
The workhorse roof, installed like it matters.
Architectural asphalt shingle is the best value in SoCal roofing — when every course, nail line, and vent is placed to spec. That part is on us.

The system
A shingle roof is a system, not a bundle count.
Architectural shingles
Dimensional profiles that stand up to sun and look sharp from the street — spec'd by exact product line.
Cool-roof colors (Title 24)
Reflective granules that meet California's energy code and take real heat out of the attic.
High-wind nailing
Six nails per shingle, on the line — the difference that keeps Santa Ana gusts from lifting courses.
Starter & ridge systems
Matched starter courses and ridge caps — not field shingles cut up to save a few dollars.
Balanced ventilation
Ridge and intake vents sized to the attic, so shingles reach their rated life instead of cooking.
Algae-resistant granules
Keeps the black streaking off lighter roofs — worth it anywhere near the marine layer.
Buying advice
When shingle roofs fail early, it's almost never the shingle.
It's four nails where six belonged, no starter course, reused flashing, and a sealed-shut attic. The brochure never fails — the installation does. That's why our crews work to the manufacturer's spec sheet and photograph the stages you'd never otherwise see.

Shingle roofing questions, answered.
With decent attic ventilation, quality architectural shingles typically give 20–25 years in SoCal sun — often more with basic maintenance. Poor ventilation can cook years off that number.
Shingles with reflective granules that bounce more solar heat, keeping the attic cooler. California's Title 24 energy code requires qualifying products in many re-roofs — and they now come in normal, attractive colors, not just white.
Code allows one overlay in limited cases, but we rarely recommend it — it hides deck problems, adds weight, and shortens the new roof's life. We'll walk you through the tradeoffs honestly.
